Muted gray vs bright Magenta Flowers with Copics.

Here is the same flower by Magenta, with 2 different techniques.

LEFT: The one on the left is muted, stamped with Memento Gray.  Now I know you are supposed to use Warm Grays with living things, but until my order comes (justifying more Copics), I used cool gray as that's all I have, and I thought the ink was a more cool gray as well.
Did Y00 over all, then YG63 for the leaves and C0 (gray).  Then flowers were B63 plus the Y00 again. I also used the C0 around the side of the flowers and leaves as shadow, ok, actually, to erase mistakes.  Simple and fast.

RIGHT:  I tried some brighter colors with the image stamped in Black Memento.  Used Y000 all over, then YG11 and YG23 for leaves.  Used B63 and B66 on flower using B63 on all, then feathering B66, then blending again with B63.  I added Y02 on the middle of the flower and side flower for brightness.  Again, simple and fast.

I've also been using the Artist Marker Pad from Bee Paper Company Professional Series that I got at Spokane Art Supply.  I like it better than the Neenah used in class.  It's 30 sheets for $10.25.  Works well.

I'm going to eventually mount these, but I just had some time to kill before dinner and wanted to try out some different color combos.  Hope you like it!

  2. I came across this page from googling "copics muted colors", I've been trying to get that weathered look with my Copics for a while now. I'm hoping to get the type of muted color in this picture:

Do you think by coating my colors with grey, I'd get this type of look? Any ideas which type of grey? Thanks for any help!
